Jesus Christ Superstar
7th - 11th May 2019
Grand Theatre, Lancaster
Produced by Suzanne Ward, Artistic Direction by Suzanne Ward, Directed by Kevin Ward
A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for nearly 50 years (in 2019), Jesus Christ Superstar is a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot following the last week of Christ's life. The iconic 1970s rock score contains such well-known numbers as "Superstar," "I Don't Know How to Love Him" and "Gethsemane."
In 1996 we were the first amateur society to be given permission to produce Jesus Christ Superstar, which up to then had only been granted to schools and church groups. This was followed in 2002 by a production in the unique setting of Lancaster Priory.
In 2019 we brought Jerusalem back to Lancaster for a triumphant run at the Grand Theatre wowing audiences over six spectacular performances.
Making his LADOS debut, J.U. as Jesus of Nazareth alongside the return of James Shields as Judas Iscariot, Jess Turton as Mary Magdalene and Robbie Love as Pontius Pilate.

With our 2019 production under the direction of Suzanne and Kevin Ward, take a moment to view all the cast and production details from our 1996 production at the Lancaster Grand and our 2002 production at Lancaster Priory both directed by Suzanne's mother Peggy Brierley with Roger Bradley as Jesus of Nazareth.
Suzanne was one of the Apostles' Women in our 1996 and 2002 productions, whilst Kevin took on the role of Herod. Our Choreographer, Holly Brown, made her LADOS debut as one of the children in 2002.
Jesus Christ Superstar originally opened on Broadway on 12th October 1971 with 711 performances before closing on 30th June 1973. It opened in London at the Palace Theatre in 1972 and ran for eight years becoming the UK's longest-running musical at the time.
